Springfield Shootings

$25,531 of $7,500 raised

On Wednesday, June 5th, Springfield detectives were parked while conducting an investigation when a car pulled up and started firing on the officers inside. Shortly after, another car shot and struck an unmarked cruiser with an AR-15 style rifle.

Seven-year Springfield Police Officer Nestor Santos was shot in the face and leg. The veteran officer was transported to Baystate Medical Center and is expected to recover at a Boston area hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Last year, he received the Springfield Police Department Medal of Valor.

Officer Santos is 44 years old and has been married his wife, Leah, for over 20 years and has 3 children. One of his sons, Anthony, is a Southbridge Massachusetts Police Officer.

“It’s going to be a long road to recovery. We want to give them their privacy. Our Springfield police officers are going to be with them every step of the way. We’re going to be by their side to make sure that they know that we’re here for them,” Springfield Police Superintendent Larry Akers explained.
